Weather in Maggie Valley – An Important Part of Visiting Maggie Valley

As a part of the western area of North Carolina Maggie Valley is prone to all sorts of variations in temperatures and other conditions. The weather in Maggie Valley is relatively warm during the summer and can become mild and near freezing during the winter months.

Precipitation is common in the winter and as a result can allow for all sorts of natural snow occurrences in nearby mountains that feature skiing activities.

First, it should be noted that a major part of the weather in Maggie Valley deals with the elevation of the area. When visiting Maggie Valley it should be known that the elevation of the valley is about three thousand feet above sea level. This is higher than that of other areas of North Carolina. This is partly due to the proximity of Maggie Valley near the Smoky and Appalachian Mountain ranges. With a higher elevation level temperatures are not going to be as likely to get into higher extremes like in other parts of the state like the cities of Charlotte or Raleigh.

The summer months are rather warm in the area. It can get to be at least seventy-five degrees during the day in the summer and about fifty degrees at night. As a result it helps to be prepared for both warm and mild temperatures in the area.

During the winter the temperatures can be cold. While the high temperatures from December to February can be about fifty degrees on average the low temperatures can be below freezing. In some cases the temperatures can be about twenty degrees at night.

Also, a major part of visiting Maggie Valley deals with the precipitation levels in the area. This is especially important during the winter not only because of road conditions but also for the ability to go skiing at the Cataloochee Ski Area in the Cataloochee Valley area. About four inches of precipitation occur every month throughout the area. This is especially helpful during the winter so that it is easier to ski on natural snow at the Cataloochee Ski Area.

Finally, while it is true that hurricanes do impact North Carolina at times these do not generally impact Maggie Valley. However, it helps to know that the high winds that can occur as a result of hurricane parts that come through Maggie Valley can cause landslides and mudslides in some areas.

The weather in Maggie Valley is something that is very helpful to consider when visiting Maggie Valley. With the high elevation of this area the temperatures are not too warm but they can be cold during certain parts of the year. The precipitation is important to consider too because of how the temperatures here can help to create snow during the winter months. Be sure to prepare appropriately for these conditions when visiting Maggie Valley.
